We had a very very good showing in all divisions last Saturday, in fact thirty-two riders participated. As usual the weather was perfect and par for the course the wind was ever present.
The A Grade race featured several serious efforts to break-up the field. The key protagonists being Dylan Newberry and Mike Brown. Each time there was a small break off the front the remaining riders worked hard to reel the escapees in.
The final and decisive break was made by Steven Schofield and Dylan Newberry. Incidentally, Dylan gets my award for the most aggressive rider in the race. They cleared out with a couple of laps to and were never headed. In the final sprint Dylan found the necessary speed to hold-off Steven in the charge to the line. Mike Brown thundered across the line to secure third ahead of the pack.
The B Grade field succumbed to the pressure with several riders loosing contact with the field as the race progressed. A small group of riders were left to battle for the championship honours. In the end Andy Deller showed-off his quick fire sprint to claim first place ahead of Simon Boss-Walker and Michael Blacklock finished in third.
Jim Cross claimed another victory in the C Grade criterium. In the main the field were on more friendly terms than the other divisions with most riders present to contest the final sprint. Mitchell Sutton could comfortably claim the most aggressive rider in this race. He stayed away off the front for a few laps and rode "hard' throughout the race. He capped off his race by taking second place. Ron McKay rode well and his excellent sprint finish placed him third.
The D Grade racing becomes more entertaining as the season progresses. This division is always a close contest and the championship proved to a tough affair. The early pace did claim a few starters but those who sprinted for the finish knew they had a race on their hands. In the end a rapidly improving John Pelsma out sprinted the ever consistent Terry Scott and Nev Ransome to the line.
The champions for each division have been captured by our visiting photographer & the file is attached. Also the list of starters and results are attached.

World Championships link : http://www.uci.ch/templates/UCI/UCI2/layout.asp?MenuId=MTU3NDk&LangId=1

I'm sure everyone is very proud of their achievements. Apart from being selected in the National Team they have done extremely well throughout their overseas trip

In the world championships

Jordan placed 26 th in the ITT.
Jay placed 7th in the road race.

Below are some of the links to other events Jordan & Jay raced in.

http://www.uci.ch/templates/BUILTIN-NOFRAMES/Template3/layout.asp?MenuId=MjExMg&LangId=1

http://www.uci.ch/templates/BUILTIN-NOFRAMES/Template3/layout.asp?MenuId=MjExMg&LangId=1

http://www.uci.ch/templates/BUILTIN-NOFRAMES/Template3/layout.asp?MenuId=MjExMg&LangId=1

The Fraser Coast Cycling Club continues to produce outstanding results in an array of competitions and classifications. On these high profile occasions our club’s member’s results repeatedly demonstrate we are punching way above our weight.

Jay and Jordan are well and truly entrenched in Europe. They have two big events under their belts. In the first competitive hit-out Jay performed very strongly to finish in the top thirty in the Tour of Luxembourg.

Last weekend they again represented Australia, this time in Italy in the Pisa Tour over four circuits for a 128kms of mixed terrain. Jordan was given team instructions to be in the “break” and thus played a major role for the Australian team. He eventually finished 8th & his fellow team mate took 9th in a field of 160. The Australians rounded-off the event as the top team. Jay had the misfortune to crash but was lucky that the crash occurred in the hills. He was able to work hard to catch the peloton and finish in the main group.

They will be competing in Bergamo Italy, commencing 22nd July and finishing on Sunday 26th. The good news is that on the strength of their performances both Jordan and Jay have been selected in the starting line-up while some of their team members have not made the cut.

Apparently when they’re not racing they are getting plenty of time on their bikes. They are spending up to five hours a day on the road. Climbing in the mountains around Varese is a feature of this training.

Tatye Dixon is proving to be one of the up and coming stars in junior cycling. He has already made a big impression in triathlon in winning his age group honours.

Competing in the Queensland Junior Championships comprising Road Race, ITT and Criterium, Tayte had a lot of fun and no doubt learnt some valueable lessons racing against his peers.

Tayte did very well to place second in the ITT. He rode well in close company to secure second in the Road Race. Tatyte capped the weekend of by also finishing second in the Criterium. According to his dad Simon, “all in all he was pretty pleased with himself and had a lot of fun.”

Blake Soper also participated in the championships. He rode well in the road race and finished fifth. Blake also had a good race in the criterium. Blake is continuing to improve with every race.

Mal Rudolph is in fabulous winning form. After taking first place in the Calliope to Biloela race, a week later he won the Elite Mens A classification in the John Brooks Memorial Race in Toowoomba last Sunday. This is an outstanding result given Mal was the defending champion from 2008 and would have been a marked man.

I cut this story from : http://www.cyclesportnews.com/aus/ As you can see the top 10 features a good showing from Mal’s Budget Forklifts Team & some very well known Elite A Men.

“Competitors were very impressed with the energy and hype the Toowoomba Cycling Club put into this year’s Jon Brooks Memorial Road Race, with the 125km event drawing an excellent field.
Representatives from three of Australia’s Continental Contract teams (Budget Forklifts, Fly V Australia, and Drapac Porsche) participated in the race which took place on the roads around Mt Tyson, (45 kilometres west of Toowoomba).
The Toowoomba Club ensured locals got the opportunity to mix with the UCI contract riders, with the Continental teams all attending a Meet-n-Greet on the Saturday Evening before the Sunday (19th July 09) event.
The A grade race was an aggressive tactic affair with Fly V Australia gaining the upper hand by getting 2 riders in the early break, with Hayden Brooks joined by team leader an former AIS rider David Kemp. The break quickly going out to a solid lead with Budget Forklifts Cameron Jennings making up the leading trio.
With things getting desperate back in the peloton as the race went into its final lap team Budget Forklifts sent the Cavalry across to the leaders with Malcolm Rudolph, Cameron Hughes, Blair Windsor (plus NSWIS/FRF contract rider Brendan Brooks) jumping across the gap to form a 7 man bunch to sprint it our for the win.
In a dramatic dash to the line Budget Forklifts Malcolm Rudolph took the win with Fly V sprinter David Kemp falling. Second going to Cameron Hughes and third to Brendan Brooks, Budget Forklifts finishing with 4 in the top 5 with Cameron Jennings and Blair Windsor next to finish.
Luck not with the Fly V team with Hayden Brooks 6th and David Kemp walking across the line for 7th. Matt Wood leading the next bunch in, with Drapac Porsche strong man Robbie Williams and Merida’s Chris Williams rounding out the top ten
RESULTS: - Jon Brooks Memorial Road Race, Mt Tyson (Toowoomba west)
Elite A Men: Sunday, 19 July 2009
1st - Malcolm Rudolph (Budget Forklifts)
2nd - Cameron Hughes (Budget Forklifts)
3rd - Brendan Brooks (Murwillumbah CC)
4th - Cameron Jennings (Budget Forklifts)
5th - Blair Windsor (Budget Forklifts)
6th - Hayden Brooks (Fly V Australia)
7th - David Kemp (Fly V Australia)
8th - Matt Wood (Kangaroo Point CC)
9th - Robbie Williams (Drapac Porsche)
10th - Chris Williams (Merida/Victor Broncos CC)

Thanks to everyone who raced on Saturday. All nomination monies about $350, went to Jay and Jordan to help fund them in their National Team endeavours.
The racing last Saturday was absolutely first rate. We had good numbers in every field and A Grade was particularly well represented. The event was very efficiently run & Keith had the finishes of each grade beautifully sequenced.
The A Grade race was a great exhibition of tactics and race skill. About mid race, Mike Brown & Jimmy Trevorrow made a solid break on the field but were unable to get away and after a few laps the field was back together until the bell sounded for the final lap.
Steve Schofield took off on the bell lap and had a big lead on the field, as he blasted along the back straight. For a short while no one seemed to want to chase but Jordan Kerby couldn't wait. Even though he'd already clocked-up some impressive training kilometres prior to the race, Jordan showed his immense class and raced Steve to the line to take first. Well done to Steve for setting-up such a good finish and then to Blake Soper who shot up the hill in a sprint finish to just pip Jimmy Trevorrow on the line for third place.
The B Grade field was a little low in numbers but that meant everyone had to work that bit harder. The field fragmented a few times but then got together again. Royce had no luck on the day with a flat on the carbon wheels & then a flat on the spares. Michael Blacklock won the race ahead of Lars Olsen and Andy Deller. Michael is showing very good form after the Ride for Glendyne and still looked very strong on our Sunday ride!!
The C Grade race was another hotly contested race that was resolved in the sprint for the line. Mitchell Sutton outsprinted Noel Pollard and Steve Case. Mitchell is rapidly developing into a talented young cyclist.
The D Grade race saw the return to the starters list of George and Ron Wroe. It was good to see a good sized field and most stayed together to contest the sprint. Terry Scott won on his recent solid form to cross ahead of a fast finishing John Williams and Phil Dale.

Metro Championships Stars

Our club seems to be one that well and truly punches above its weight when it comes to open company. Last weekend Brisbane hosted the Metro Championships in the form of a criterium and road race.
On Sunday Jay McCarthy won the road race ahead of his fellow National Team mate Thomas Richards. This outstanding result followed Jay's second place in the criterium held at Murrarie on Saturday. Well done Jay.
Dylan Newberry is another of our emerging talents. Dylan has really developed over the past twelve months. Dylan reached a new pinnacle of achievement in besting a strong field comprising some of Queensland's "to watch cyclists" in the U17 Criterium on Saturday. I hope this result is a strong motivator for Dylan. Congratulations Dylan.

The Maryborough Tin Can Bay Race was an outstanding success.
The fields in all grades except C were very healthy and up on last year. The numbers were A -12, B - 15, C - 3 & D - 7.
The race was held in very windy conditions gusting up to 28 knots or 52 kilometres per hour. Fortunately the rain held off.
As Bill Barker mentioned in presenting the winners trophy to Mal Rudolph; this year's A Grade field was one of the classiest in the history of the race. Toby Boylan from Bundaberg Cycling Club placed second and Jay McCarthy continued his close rivalry with Jordan Kerby by narrowly beating Jordan for third place.
Michael Blacklock made the field chase him over the final 500 metres to take first place in B Grade. Mick held off a fast finishing second place getter in Mark Fielding who had Mark Black in close attendance in third place.
In C Grade, Noel Pollard first won the battle of the finish line sprint with Steve Case and Peter Hogg finished a close third..
Robert Jamieson showed his continuing improvement and tactical ability by winning the D Grade race. Nigel Gear was second and Phil Dale took third.
The feedback from the Bundaberg and Coral Isle riders and officials was very positive and they appreciated Fraser Coast's efforts in hosting the event. Maybe next year we'll race from Tin Can Bay to Maryborough!!
I would like to thank all of the volunteers from the club who contributed their time and support in making this a memorable event. As an example there were lead and follow vehicles for every grade. This made it a very safe race as all road users were well aware of our presence for the entire 68 kms.
Special thanks to Gail Ward Chief Commissaire. Gail ran a very good event and introduced a neutral zone to make the departure from Granville safer for all concerned.
Also thanks once again to Megan for her contribution in Race Secretary & to Keith for all the pre-race set-up of signs, race starter for D grade, Commissaire & being a great host for our visitors.
Look forward to a good attendance for this week's criterium in Maryborough.
